Waiting for snow is like "Waiting for Godot!"

This was his position every 15 minutes after the clock ticked over to midnight. Peering out into the night hoping to see those little white flakes. The weather APP had highlighted 1:15 am as the first hint of flurries. That can and went and was progressively updated to 7 am, then 10 am then 1:15 am .... and then ... it just continued to push out through the day.

The weather man was promising - but definitely did not deliver. I love the line "It may be slippery."

Even had @Mindy on snow alert further down the mountain at school - the plan was, if something materialised we would jump on the bus and get in the thick of it.

At one stage we received a text from her to say she had spotted three snowflakes - that was in total - so hardly worth abandoning our post for that meagre offering.

In the daylight hours it was confusing - you'd look up out the big sliding door and see stuff falling to the ground, only to realise that with the breath of breeze that was around during the day, it was the small needles falling from the trees.

What I can tell you is that is was once again COLD.  We were happy to be inside, tucked up in the warmth. And not embarrassed to say that at one stage, the highlight of my day looked like it was going to be locating a black sock I had misplaced in the laundry. Mundane was good. No complaints AND absolutely NO IRONING.

Very careful hand pressing and folding - no-one will know!

@Mindy came home from work and bundled me into the car to drive (on our snow tyres) further up the mountain to see if we could catch some flakes there. @Mac opted not to come because he was sure, that after his almost full day on high alert, if he abandoned his post - it would be sure to snow in his absence.

Can't possibly abandon his post - @Mac moved from here to the front door so many times I think he clocked up 10 000 steps. He's not playing his game - checking the weather report ... yeah, right.

We were only talking about a few flakes here and there in our neck of the woods - and that was late in the afternoon. Not really much to get too excited about.

Check it out - 2 degrees outside - #Inala Boy, barefoot on a flurry hunt

@Mindy and I headed to the #Sliding Centre and did catch a few flurries - and I do mean just a few. For some bizarre reason we did have one big snowflake splatter on the windscreen - but that was it for a sizeable offering.

Nothing to show for our climb a little higher but we could see dusting of snow higher up the mountain

Abandoned our windy outpost and headed to #The Village for our baking supplies. Minor success but will need to get to #Squamish for the #Halloween finesse.

We could see fine dusting of snow down rhe ski runs of Whistler Mountain from #The Village

We thought we were in for a relaxed night at home. Didn't quite turn out that way, there was lots of action to follow.

@Mac was reporting from his frequent forays into the outdoors that as darkness was falling, the intensity of the wind was picking up. The #Halloween decorations on the porch were doing contortions in the winds. The huge fir trees ere swaying and rattling and debris was tumbling from the treetops. The double glass of the windows and doors does muffle the sounds from outside, but by 8:00 pm the roar of the wind and the thrashing of the branches was now audible inside. And it wasn't consistent- it was like waves of wind would buffet the neighbourhood - it was a rush of sound for five minutes and then would be silent. Definitely eerie.

It has just ticked by  9:00 pm and it was all lights out. There was a blackout in Alpine. Trees had fallen across power lines in the lane we take to Meadow Park and progressively, more trees and more lines were down. "BC Hyrdro" was issuing power outage alerts, roads were closed and power was out up and down the Sea to Sky.

Lots of updates - mind you, we didn't need anyone to tell us there was no power!

We were fortunate - our power was restored at 2:00 am - people one block over were still in darkness.

@Mac had given up his 15-minute regular updates on the snow and replaced them with updates on the wind! Will be interesting to see what it all looks like tomorrow in the light of day.

PS Feeling very grateful that the medical battery had charge in it for @Mac - bought it for the trip to #Africa and now it has come up trumps in #Canada. Great investment.

PPS Laughing at this post on the Community Facebook page - was my thoughts exactly about the "pumpkin oicking" - definitely a "selection" process

Looks like I wasn't only one amused by pumpkin picking!

PPPS Any visit to #The Village at any time involves a toilet stop for me. Today, my rest stop was at #Olympic Village. Look who I missed by 5 minutes - just having a little wander on the lawns of the #Olympic Rings.

Right on lawns in #Olympic Village
