Looks so bright and sunny - don't be fooled- absolutely freezing today
The countdown is on and there is a definite chill in the air and combined with the very slightest of breezes, it does feel like we might be in for a dusting of that lovely white stuff. According to the weather bureau forecast, it had been "expected" overnight and @Mac said he was setting his alarm to get outside in the early hours of the morning and check it out. Big plans!
The day started for me at school and loads of fun to be greeted by the excitement of the children now that I am a familiar face. Have plenty of volunteers who would like to read to me and impress me with their Math skills.
Children have been a way from class for three days due to the PD Day for staff on Friday and some of the pumpkins were a little worse for wear and were "dripping" off the side of the desks. The children just mucked in, cleaned up and disposed off the big rotters and absolutely no tears with a promise of "We'll find another one."
Technology use so far limited to Math warm up movement and song
I had checked in with @Ms_W for permission to have a look at the desktop printer in the classroom that wasn't working. Last week, @Ms_W had mentioned that she was sure she could get it working if she just had enough time to look at it. I had the time and it was a welcomed offer. The suspected problem was "out of ink." Not even close.
A very modern little unit that had all the diagnostics accessible from a comprehensive list of options on its touch screen. 👌 Ink levels were great. All I did was turn it on and off at the wall (101 in any troubleshooting) - opened all the different compartments, doors and drawers - including the paper trays. I think I stumbled on the real cause when I removed a very large orange clip from the back of the unit - I can only assume it was part of the transport packaging to ensure elements of the printer weren't damaged prior to delivery. Anyway, turned it all back on, ran the test print successfully and I was immediately elevated to "hero" status in the classroom.
Got that sorted - hero status awarded
Think that got me my next two jobs. I handed out the iPads and helped with the IXL logins. Was then dispatched to the print room (houses one huge #Xerox they have named #Margaret) to do some bulk printing for assessment booklets, complete with hole punching. That was my first mistake of the day! I "assumed" needed two holes - but oh no, the binders were a three-hole punch. Felt mortified at the volume of printing and felt compelled to sort out that little blunder and manually re-punch the bundle and then assemble the folders.
A little stumble - but all worked out in the end.
Needless to say was a little later home. Still don't like that little walk down the path to get to the bus. Have taken time to actually look at it today - one side just falls away from the railing to the road and the other is a rock face. Reassuring myself I would see any unwanted bear long before I entered. Still did sing though - this time for the #Birthday Boy in #Sydney.
When the bikers want a bit more "off road" action they make their own path
Today's routine was a little different and I have to confess that I nearly missed it. For some reason I hadn't set an alarm and then managed to sleep in till 7.45 am. Not sure how I made it for the 8 am leave, but having my clothes bundled at the bedroom door ready for the day really helped. @Ian dropped us off because he had to spend the day in #Squamish while the winter tyres were put on the vehicle.
Meant @Mac was "home alone" and he has assured us that he was busy busy doing the meal and coffee prep! All was in readiness for the afternoon NFL session where @Ian's #49ers had us cheering in a very close game. Not the desired outcome ... but there is always next week.
@Mac, hamming it up. Busy schedule today: cutting ham, making coffee and waiting for snow. It's a hard life.
Lots on the agenda and @Mindy certainly tries to keep everyone updated and organised - but not sure her message is getting through to "some" participants, No doubt over the next few days we won't need to say "act surprised" - they will be!
The organiser, the gamer and the worker
PS Think I have sorted the #Halloween baking option. As long as I don't have to give up my mint #Oreos I think this is the go. Going for red velvet patties, with red icing and sone #Oreo bats for "Bat Blood" cupcakes. Did a check-in with @Millie Mac, our #Cupcake Queen, for hints on the icing - so got that sorted. Just need some "eyes" from #Squamish on Thursday. May have done a "little" prepping and worked my way through FOUR mint #Oreos trying to get the bat thing going! Not sure i have perfected yet, might need a repeat round with coffee tomorrow night.
My inspiration for "Bat Blood" cupcakes
(I think I'm taking the #Taylor Swift thing one step too far - maybe it will go unnoticed)
