Noting that the weather bureau indicated those winds last night were 10-15 kph. That seems inconsequential for the number of trees down and the associated power outages. In my mind thought this was perhaps nature's first blow of the season and as such, it gets rid of the weaklings. The streets and lanes they we had to navigate to get to the highway were busy with Municipal vehicles and workers. Lots of tree felling, carting away of debris and men in cherry pickers dealing with the powerlines.
Although the school had lost power overnight it was business as usual for the day. The heating and water were working so what more do you need. The same routines in @Ms_W's class and readily welcomed by all the children now - they all seem happy to work with me one on one or in small groups. Even squeezed in 30 minutes of shelving before the school day started so got smiles and thumbs up there and can now just "pick" what I want to shelve. Trust.
Have to laugh - any mention of "pumpkin" in the classroom by @Ms_W absolutely creates a current of excitement in the room. Apparently, Friday is 'the day' for pumpkin prep and I have been flagged, in advance, for glue gun duty. This afternoon in my absence, the children will start the decoration of the classroom - any of these discussions got immediate increase in "outputs on the current math or literacy task.
Schook snaps: pumpkin mania, microwave in every classroom kids heat up food, a reminder that i need to "bake", show and tell and caged version of dodgeball on the oval (I can't remember its real name)
Had a little personal IT time with one of the Learning Support team today and didn't let the challenge of the backwards touchpad of her Mac daunt me - just worked through a few little stumbles that were troubling her and basked in her praise of @Mindy. Warmed a mother's heart.
Bus stop wait was MEGA freezing and I did a job to warm myself up when I got home - attached myself to a large broom and did a little clean-up of the debris around our place and the area in front of the units owned by the ladies that I have a chat with. A definite improvement because the bigger stuff and the acorns were out of the way - but no sooner had I finished than the needles were starting to make their new dry brown and crunchy bitumen covering.
@Mac and I rugged up for a wander around to #Green Lake so that we could get that glimpse of the white peaks. All now with a dusting of snow down to about the 1000 metre mark. The days ahead show cold conditions but no precipitation - so no snow expected before our departure. Our few flurries may be the end for us on this trip.
The peaks have snow ... but not down here
Definitely colder, @Mac has broken out the winter accessories for the first time
Laughing a little - we have travelled 12 000 kms, to a different hemisphere and a different season and been here for 70 + days and have experience some shaved ice from the skating rink and some flurries. In separate trios @Lloyd and @Deb and then @Denise and her friends have travelled 2500 kms to Tassie and have been dumped on! Lucky them.
Had a quiet night in and did a rerun of potato bake for @Mindy after the #Strata meeting and enjoyed a late night with power.
Have to include a pic, as evidence that it made a repeat appearance - I do believe leftovers were purloined for lunch!
Darn, already shedding a few tears here because we have to leave. But, the time has come. We've checked our bus and then our flight booking. All in place. Got @Aunty Gail to welcome us home - only 7 days left as a local. Wow, time certainly does fly when you are having fun.
