Main focus of the morning was to get that baking through the kitchen. Had our tools all organised for us by @Mindy before she left for work, so really just had to beat multiple batches onto submission. Had chocolate for the graveyard red velvet for the blood and added some swirls to the vanilla batch to get a swamp feel going. Only had one emergency in the prep and must say that we did search high and low to try and solve the mystery ourselves but ended up calling @Mindy at school to sort it out.
We were prepped and ready in time to meet the afternoon deadline for school pickup to head to the last cross country meet of the season in #Squamish.
Once again, the kids did a great job and the course organisation had the runners successfully marshalled, led and then lined up in order of finishing. Great to share in the smiles and community spirit of the children and their families. Can't help but notice the incredibly beautiful settings of these schools. Again, doesn't matter which way you look, mountains and trees surround you. We are a little lower down the mountain in #Squamish, which meant we got to ensure a couple of hours of not quite so chilly outdoor time. So grateful that the sun was shining.
And we weren't the only ones out enjoying the sunshine. I kid you not, we saw our first BEAR, but get this, it was UP A TREE! Couldn't believe our eyes when we spotted it in the branches, but there it was, perched on a branch.
Yep, there IS a bear up there
The other bear news was that the grizzly back at #Alpine had been trapped and was I'm the process of being tagged and relocated. Guess we can tackle that walk to #Nesters again without worry.
Next stop on any trip to #Squamish is #Walmart and by a crazy coincidence, friends @Amy and @Phil were on their homeward journey back to #Whistler after 6 months of travelling the world. A very excited reunion for @Mindy and @Ian and to be fair, if we weren't already camped in the second bedroom @Amy and @Phil would be taking up residence until their home becomes available on the first of the month.
Eventually got back on task and hunted down the decorative essentials for the naked patty cakes at home and stocked up on pantry essentials. Took a slight detour to pick up a Chinese takeaway and then swerved and curved our way back to our kitchen.
Loads of fun pretending we were in control of the flow of the icing and the creation of colours and layering. But literally winged it and with the help of an impressive box of googly eyes managed to create our Bat Blood, Slimy Snake Swamp, and Monster's Graveyard collection of patty cakes and @Mindy added a layered-up chocolate and marshmallow slab of Mummy's Crypts.
The fridge was overflowing - the smell of chocolate and sugar was overwhelming - but but we felt it definitely had buyer potential.
If there are any thoughts about the men in this frenzy of icing sugar and food colouring, rest assured they were fine. They were once again in perfect sync in their cheers and challenges for Thursday night football. Think they had high hopes that there would be some taste testing - not tonight - every patty cake and slice was an extra $1 of fund-raising for the year 7 students. Absolute losers on the food front, but apparently in their respective "fantasy worlds" they were winners. Fingers crossed we are winners with our sales tomorrow.
