The day here started very slowly but eventually we were kitted up and out the door for today's wander around #Lost Lake. In previous unsuccessful iterations of this visit, we had been lost finding it and had a visit to its "no parking" carpark. Today it was a "jackpot." We got to park (restrictions have been lifted now that summer has "officially" ended) and actually strolled around it!
Reprising a photo from our first visit to Whistler - old man's whiskers from #Lost Lake
Not many takers today for the water, but the #Lake is set up for family time in the summer - a little sandy beach and a number of pontoons or docks into the water. Complete with a ramp, so your dog can swim out and then climb onto the pontoon and also with logs attached. The logs are more targeted at the humans. If you want to hone up on your lumberjack skills, you jump on the log and employ some fancy footwork to do a little log rolling. Boys will be boys- so naturally @Ian couldn't resist "stepping out!" He did refrain from the fancy footwork though - wasn't really a perfect day for a dunking.
This whole "put on another layer" is especially true for the children. The little kids have an outer layer here called a "muddy buddy." Just a sturdy PVC outer shell that is an overall. Kids were out today in their muddy buddy, complete with Wellington boots, digging in the sand of the beach and rolling on the wet, wet grass in the autumn leaves in the gentle sprinkle of rain. Apparently, you just hose the muddy buddy off and it is good to go for next time.
Came home to hit kitchen duties to prepare some dessert for our "Whistler family" dinner and had decided on a chocolate slice and a tray of matchsticks.
There was fruit so it was healthy
Joined our hosts @Mel and @Chad for the evening and ate and laughed our way through the dinner. Apparently @Mindy and @Ian are usually hosts but there was a venue change this year because it is @Mel and @Chad's first year in their newly purchased apartment.
Happy Whistler Family Thanksgiving
Yes, there was turkey with cranberry sauce and it was accompanied by plenty of veggie choices. Best of all was a JUG of gravy and a delicious crumbly STUFFING. And everyone brought their appetite and did justice to the preparations.
Plenty of choices for dinner
A definite feeling of family here - everyone pitches in. Tables and chairs had been collected from @Mindy and @Ian the day before, there wasn't enough cutlery so we just took four sets with us, @Robyn and @Kevin are vegetarians so they took a turkey alternate dish to add to the table and when the feasting was done, clean up and dish washer stacking just happened. So much laughter as stories were shared and new plans were hatched.
It is normally a "larger" group of about a dozen, but some members of the "family" were overseas and some were with visiting family in Vancouver. But technology kept them connected especially as new plans were plotted around the hens and bucks that is on the near horizon for @Mel and @Chad.
Without doubt, so much to be thankful for - right up there near the top, is this extended #Whistler Family that @Mindy and @Ian get to share life with! Pretty lucky - this is family you choose.
PS We have been rotating the same handful of socks and undies on this extended trip. @Mac pulled on a pair of #Bonds yesterday that won't last the distance. As a huge hole appeared he calmly claimed "Darn it, I'll have to darn it." Sounded funny, and I had a chuckle. But the real laughter was saved for the thought of him actually sewing anything. @Mindy and @Mac will have to investigate that "lost art" of hand sewing. A father daughter bonding experience.
Maybe he can convince himself to just toss them.
That is some hole!
