The workers in the household are usually hours into their day before we surface and, with the rain and gloom of the a.m. hours this morning, today was no exception.
We surfaced in time to make our way towards #Rainbow and #Cranked for brunch and a little shopping at the local. I do prefer #Nesters, even at its 6 km round trip (#Rainbow trail is only 3 km out and back) but the grizzly is still wandering around up there, so we headed in the opposite direction. I love that the bear seems to be ambling around the soccer field now and is described as "not showing any aggressive behaviours." I don't want to be the one to test its patience. Steering clear.
On our path today we had to skirt what we think was the biggest pile of bear scat - even festooned with generous lashings of seeds. It was a fresh, warm pile and we were grateful there were other walkers and a scattering of bikers to offer it some choice for "playmates" if it made an appearance.
We would like to hoard and stock up but it is hard to keep the fresh fruit and veggies here from going off. I don't know if we are spoiled at home or if there are already too many transport and storage miles added to the produce here. We have noticed in the shops that the fruit and veggies are very "wet." The interior of the supermarket is toasty hot/war, and the displays of fruit and veggies are "dripping" with water delivered from an overhead sprinkler system. I haven't seen an unripened avo for example - when you pick them up from the display, they are soft and ready to eat. If you take them home and "store" them, on day three they would be brown inside and throwable. Bean sprouts "melted" in a day, broccoli gets that yellow tinge, carrots get the penicillin stain .. you are constantly trying to pick it up "fresh" and explains why every couple of days @Mac and I are out on the trail heading towards are grocery store. Chipmunk lessons of storage only apply to tinned and frozen foods.
Enjoying our shopping experience though, because so much has changed in our few months here. In September all the outside shop displays were glorious tubs of flowers along with associated fertilisers, garden equipment and hoses. Now it is wood, wood and wood alternates, along with anti-freeze and snow shovels. Oh, and umbrellas. And, yes, of course, 🎃 🎃 🎃 🎃 🎃 🎃 🎃.
All this change can equally be applied to the glorious red of some of the trees. Although, as each day progresses, more and more are just naked stalks with all their leaves dumped to the ground.
A little repeat visit to "Cranked" because we like the coffee here and know the cleanup routine. Took up our preferred corner seat (has a booth seat that I love, a chair option for @Mac and a window view.) Tried the waffles (with the works), played with the pumpkins and counted our blessings because it absolutely teamed down with rain while we were tucked up inside rather than on our walk.
Loaded up for the return journey home and another relaxing afternoon - confessing that I had a little "snooze" before laughing myself stupid at another episode from a British comedian. A little embarrassed cause I hadn't realised that we had visitors downstairs - and apparently I was full on belly laughing.
In love with the airfryer here and while @Mindy and @Robyn hatched a "hen's" plan and @Mac and @Ian continued with their Indvidual interpretations of "work" I roasted up a feast as a prelude to our movie night. Thank goodness for "Netflix" cause that was the only option available when I suggested "a movie." Don't think we've watched one since we got off a plane
No movie theatre in #Whistler anymore - the nearest is the 2 hour dash down the mountain in #Vancouver. With all the hype around #Taylor Swift and NFL star #Travis Kelce there might be traffic jam on the #Sea to Sky. Anyway, we laughed it up for a late night rerun of #The Hitman's Bodyguard and committed to a sequel for tomorrow night.
And @Mac is very excited and optimistic for the prospects that may unfold over the next weekt. First inclusion in the weather forecast of "snow." Next Tuesday bring it on. AND, phew, we'll have the snow tyres on! Bet those clever chipmunks haven't changed their treads.
