WEDNESDAY SEPTEMBER 6
Must start with successes!
✅️ we have Niagara booking
✅️ we have cash
✅️ we have accommodation and have only made one payment
✅️ as mentioned, @Mac got us in for early checkin, despite receiving message today that early checkin was not available - oops
The day itself was a gem. What a beautiful city. The clear blue skies, the water, the heat, the flowers and gardens AND best of all THE TOWER combine to make this a little paradise for tourists.
No rush for us - no schedule - no need to be anywhere or do anything on time. We had our fruit and juice at home and left with a fuzzy goal of heading ti the water and getting to #Toronto Islands.
We are a two block walk to the waterfront so we had no trouble getting started. And we just meandered - taking photos of THE TOWER from every angle, taking in the waterfront sights until we stumbled on a booth offering Island Tours. What a find.
@Gilbert was our new best friend. He went above and beyond - got us on the one-hour tour, organised a water taxi to take us back for lunch and sorted our #Niagara tickets for tomorrow.
The one-hour cruise (complete with an #Aromas coffee and smoothie) was a fun and informative start to the history and development of this waterfront precinct. Smooth sailing for us and it was a waterfront tour of #Central (airport) and #Toronto Islands.
Once back at the waterfront, we jumped back on a water taxi to complete the crossing again to set up for lunch with views of THE TOWER at #Beer and BBQ.
I think I made a mistake having a big guzzle of ice-cold beer in the blazing sun because after lunch I could barely put one foot in front of the other. Literally pulled up a park bench and had a 35-minute power nap - as in really asleep. @Mac's lap was of course my pillow. The only problem was that he had sat so still on the slats of the bench, the weight of my head was squeezing his bottom through the cracks between the slats. With all those blood thinners, we will be checking for bruises tomorrow!
Refreshed (well I was, @Mac had a bit of a limp going as his butt cheeks started to resume normal blood flow), we explored #The Islands on foot. Magnificent. What a precinct. Gardens, trees, bird life, ponds, fountains, avenues, secluded wooded nooks, beaches and bridges. The endless lush green grassed areas boasted signs inviting you to walk on the grass! A feast for the eyes and at any second you wanted to, it was possible to see THE TOWER on the other side of the harbour. I was declaring it wasn't worth taking a photo if THE TOWER wasn't in it.
Plenty to do as well - an amusement park with rides, free water play areas for the children , hire of all sorts of water craft, large open areas with people playing ball games, bicycle hire and beach swimming. We of course were content with walking, talking and looking.
Caught the free ferry home with about 400 others and opted to take a tram home rather than retracing the 3km along the waterfront to home. We were pooped.
Peeled of the sweat soaked clothing, a quick shower to cool down amd then across the road to Hunters Lodge for dinner. Noisy, but we had a "snug like" ioth and ordered some #Italian delights before slowly making our way home to the 17th floor. Can't say I heard any trains, I was out like a light. Pleasant dreams assured because @Gilbert has us heading to #Niagara tomorrow.
PS: ❌️ still outstanding is the booking for train to Ottawa - missed them by 28 minutes - they were closed for business when we called .... tomorrow ... 🤞
Meanwhile in 🇪🇺 with @M&I
I know we should not be laughing but the "scared" photo of @Mindy that came through while we were cruising the inner harbour of #Toronto under clear blue skies , elicited a giggle at our end rather than shock. Cannot believe the weather they are having. Apparently they were off this morning for the sunrise viewing of the Temple of Poseidon - with a virtual "hurricane" threatening" visibility was doubtful.
We really thought they were in a boat! So much water
